Bumpy

Surf: Bumpy. Waist-Shoulder high.

Little windy, little bumpy, plenty crumbly with the typical amount of closeouts and wash. Waist range with a few chest high waves. Rideable, but more suited for the desperado temperament. I had fun, saw other people have fun, but you may very well not have had fun.

Clean

Surf: Knee-Waist high. Clean.

A few waist high sets to keep things lively. Clean with some closeouts. Nothing epic and def on the mellow sleepy side, but not too shabby for a fair summer day. Very crowded when I paddled out, but got a little better.

Surf Class

Surf: Clean Knee-Waist high.

I spent the morning playing surf instructor attempting to teach someone’s teenage daughter to surf. After hiking 14 miles the day before, I wasn’t sure I’d be able to move let alone instruct but I wound up in good enough shape to swim for an hour while pushing her into waves. Not bad.

I’m not the best instructor tho. Oh the poor student. I mostly pushed her into waves and yelled PADDLE!!! She caught a few waves, but didn’t get to her feet. Hopefully she didn’t have a terrible time.

After that I took the stubby out to try to catch a few waves. Did fine getting the waves, but the tricky part today was finding a decent spot where I could pick off a few scraps the longboarders let pass. On such a mellow day, almost everyone had something so I snuck into a group of beginner SUPs. A dangerous strategy, but I did get quite a few waves and they were all friendly folk.

High Expectations

Surf: Knee-Waist Hight, junkier.

I kinda had my hopes up after yesterday. I mean, yesterday had some size, some peak shaped things…it wasn’t too much of a stretch to hope for that for today. Having that hope meant I was a little bummed by the less than hoped for conditions. Oh well.

I got one proper wave that made my morning and I got to spend the session with a rainbow overhead.

Modest, but fun.

Surf: Waist to Shoulder High. Slightly offshore.

Lots of drop and wash closeouts, but the faces that held up were pretty nice. Little bit of offshore breeze slowly started to clean things up. There are certainly some good sized sets out there. There was a lot more energy than I’d expected. It’s still modest, but was fun.

Got a few SH waves that had some pretty nice pep. I love zooming on past on a good sized wave with a log. 😀

Knee high rollers, Crowds

Surf: Knee high and clean working up to chest high and crowded.

I rolled up a little late and cruised around looking for Chris and looking for waves. It was super mellow. I found Chris in a group of loggers picking up some lovely little rolling waves. Wheee. Plenty fun. Nice calm morning with friend folks around.

As the little left started to run out of steam, we headed north of some larger waves. It was surprisingly crowded with lots of unfamiliar faces. Pretty zippy waves up there. Not too shabby.

Flotilla of SUPs

Surf: Started out closed out, Chest high or so. Cleaned up and mellowed out. Waist-Chest.

Avoided the crowds by picking a spot further up north. It was kinda bumpy and closed out, but with a few fun drop and run rides. Things slowly started to clean up and the SUPs came out in full force. With the soupy inside I spent a lot of time shifting around to different rips trying to find the sweet spot. Sun was out, not bad.

Sloppy but surfable

Surf: Sloppy, waist high. Lemony.

I had fun doing some left like leftings, but there was a long debate between lefty leftings and napping in my car till it was time to go to work. It was a step above desperado but a step below fair.

There was a lot of fruit on the beach today. Oranges, a watermelon, and another melon. Weird!

War between the states

Surf: Waist-Shoulder high, cleanish.

It’s funny how different parts of the beach can be some days. Today the North was large and crumbly. Norther surfers complained of poor quality waves and closeouts.

Got some fair plus quality action in the Carolinas before picking up a few pretty fun ones in southern Georgia.

There were a few large waves moving through from time to time. I got a real fun one for my first wave down south. It was a late drop and I was sure it was going to come down on my head. Plenty of zip and vigor on that one. Lots of lefty rail grabbing. Whee.

Sun. A rainbow. A little bit of traffic, but overall def fair plussing in. I was plenty happy with the waves I got. 😀

No Wind Wednesday

Surf: Shoulder-Head high. Little crowded and disorganized looking at the start.

The waves that held up were pretty solid. I had a few that were lovely. One was a little bit of a wolf in wave’s clothing. Got some nice swooping turns in, went to kickout and got spun pretty good. Hoooo. I think the crowd must have all come in the same car. I got a wave, paddled back out and everyone was gone.

Plenty of drop and wash with some solid shoulders here and there. Nice sun. Warm. Fishy. The birds were having quite the party waves on the outside.
