Knee high rollers, Crowds

Surf: Knee high and clean working up to chest high and crowded.

I rolled up a little late and cruised around looking for Chris and looking for waves. It was super mellow. I found Chris in a group of loggers picking up some lovely little rolling waves. Wheee. Plenty fun. Nice calm morning with friend folks around.

As the little left started to run out of steam, we headed north of some larger waves. It was surprisingly crowded with lots of unfamiliar faces. Pretty zippy waves up there. Not too shabby.

Flotilla of SUPs

Surf: Started out closed out, Chest high or so. Cleaned up and mellowed out. Waist-Chest.

Avoided the crowds by picking a spot further up north. It was kinda bumpy and closed out, but with a few fun drop and run rides. Things slowly started to clean up and the SUPs came out in full force. With the soupy inside I spent a lot of time shifting around to different rips trying to find the sweet spot. Sun was out, not bad.

Sloppy but surfable

Surf: Sloppy, waist high. Lemony.

I had fun doing some left like leftings, but there was a long debate between lefty leftings and napping in my car till it was time to go to work. It was a step above desperado but a step below fair.

There was a lot of fruit on the beach today. Oranges, a watermelon, and another melon. Weird!

War between the states

Surf: Waist-Shoulder high, cleanish.

It’s funny how different parts of the beach can be some days. Today the North was large and crumbly. Norther surfers complained of poor quality waves and closeouts.

Got some fair plus quality action in the Carolinas before picking up a few pretty fun ones in southern Georgia.

There were a few large waves moving through from time to time. I got a real fun one for my first wave down south. It was a late drop and I was sure it was going to come down on my head. Plenty of zip and vigor on that one. Lots of lefty rail grabbing. Whee.

Sun. A rainbow. A little bit of traffic, but overall def fair plussing in. I was plenty happy with the waves I got. 😀

No Wind Wednesday

Surf: Shoulder-Head high. Little crowded and disorganized looking at the start.

The waves that held up were pretty solid. I had a few that were lovely. One was a little bit of a wolf in wave’s clothing. Got some nice swooping turns in, went to kickout and got spun pretty good. Hoooo. I think the crowd must have all come in the same car. I got a wave, paddled back out and everyone was gone.

Plenty of drop and wash with some solid shoulders here and there. Nice sun. Warm. Fishy. The birds were having quite the party waves on the outside.

Clear Blue Mellowness

Surf: Knee-Waist high. A chest high wave or two. Clean, clear.

Very happy to have my big longboard back in action. Smooth paddling into mellow little waves under warm sun. Nice nice nice.
Def on the small side, but I’ll take it. Spent some time at the north end working on little waves and splitting peaks with some boogie boarders. Would love to have stayed out longer.

Took the long way in to the office and did some drive by spot checks. The mellowness meant the smaller spots weren’t breaking at all, but some typically whomping SMOT spots looked loggy.

Exhausted in SC

Surf: Beautiful peeling Waist-Shoulder high waves.

So. Tired. OMG.

I think I’m surfed out. It was perfect conditions today and I was slogging along, barely able to catch anything. My arms and my shoulders were burning.

Other than the frustrating lack of waves, it was a pretty fun day. Nicole, Tim and I met Beamer, Robert and Blam down south. Tim got some GREAT waves. He threw some serious spray. Dang.

I mostly floated around and watched everyone else score. Proxystoke is little comfort when you’re out in the water, but much moreso thinking back on it.

Sunset Soup

Surf: Waist-Shoulder high. Sloppy.

I said I wasn’t going to surf today. I’m tired. I was settled in to my day nicely when Blam and Emily said they were heading out.
Well if they were heading out, I guess I should to?

I got down there a little late. It was a mess. Crumbling, closing out. Not pretty. I was really hoping Emily wasn’t out in this slop. I did managed to get one good ride out of it all. That made the paddle out worth it.

Afterwards we had a nice dinner at Blam’s. Got to meet a few new folks including a couple from San Diego who were in the water while I was out. They commented on my no-booties/no-hood style. 😀 I like being able to pretend I’m hard core but it’s summer! Summer is a good time to go without booties!

Dinner was great, fun day.

Steep Soup

Surf: Waist-Head high. Lots of closeouts.

Whomp. Yesterday was downright good compared to today. Got a few fun rides in and there was some size/power, but man that soup. Soupy soup soup. Do they make soup out of lemons and closeouts? Cause if they do I had plenty.

I took out my 9’0 thruster since the 9’4 was dinged. It was a great board for today since it’s thinner and it can take a steeper wave. I got quite a few exciting ones pumping through a few quick big carves before outrunning the wash. It’s always fun seeing people’s wide eyed looks when I manage to get a board that big to power through a bottom turn on a wave like that.

Had one pretty harsh wipeout tho. Ouch. I saw the wave just bottom out right about the time I hit a warble. I was pretty close from slamming into my board as it got pounded by the closing out wave. I missed it by a whew inches. Whew.

Sunny. Swell’s not yet here.

Surf: Waist-Chest. Soft.

It was soft out there, but catchable. I got a handful of okay rides. Sun was out. Aaron was out after a long time out of the water with a shoulder injury. Size came coming up slowly but not the big pulse everyone had been twitching in anticipation for. Low expectations were helpful.

Saw nicoleslaw get a nice one. Woot.

No pastries.
